OCOM

Summarize the project's program, features and achievements?

The Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM) made history with its opening being Central Florida's first osteopathic Medical School. The 144,000 square feet building has an Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Lab, Virtual Anatomy Lab, Research Lab, Simulation Lab, Library, multiple large classrooms, and a multitude of study spaces as well as health and wellness spaces.

What obstacles were overcome related to the schedule, budget, program, specification, site, etc. on this project?

To accelerate the schedule, all panels were cast on temporary casting slab. with almost twice as much square footage of tilt-up panel from footprint slab on grade. The slab on grade was then installed after the tilt-up panels were erected because there were many different elevations for interior stadium seating for lecture halls.

Please communicate any engineering complexities or unique features of the panel design for this project?

With almost 7,000 square feet of 4" recesses, the concrete contractor decided to cast the temporary casting slab at different elevations to prevent the use of forming these recesses from conventional plywood. This transferred to a clean transitional appearance to the exterior panels.

TILT-UP ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Tilt-Up Achievement Awards were established to honor projects that use site-cast tilt-up concrete to introduce new building types, advance industry technology and provide unique solutions to building programs. Winning entries illustrate the variety, beauty, and flexibility of tilt-up construction.
