Project Fireball

Summarize the project's program, features and achievements.

Project Fireball is the new home of Goodyear's 1,514,040 sf tire distribution center in Newnan, Georgia. The building has 150 dock doors, almost 1,000 auto parking spaces and 1,000 trailer parking spaces. It is equipped with a trucker's lounge, over 10,000 sf of main office space, remote restrooms, a guard's shack, shipping/receiving, as well as tread and product service offices. Martin Concrete was responsible for the foundations, slab on grade, tilt-up wall panels, concrete paving, and other typical concrete scope items. This cross-dock facility features a 6" Ductilcrete slab on grade, 270,720 sf worth of dock apron, 152 dock pits, sidewalk and over 59,000 sf of dolly strip. MC Ready Mix, a division of Martin Concrete, was stationed on-site to assist in concrete production. Martin's in-house concrete finishers were utilized for flatwork and panel finishing. Full Tilt Crane Services, also a subsidiary of Martin Concrete, erected the large tilt-up panels safely and efficiently. A total of 248 panels were used to complete the building. The panels ranged in thicknesses from 7 ¼" to 9" thick. This project has received industry wide recognition industry wide due to its impressive size as well as the job opportunities it created for the communities surrounding the project.

Communicate any engineering complexities or unique features of the panel design for this project.

The original storefront design consisted of multiple spandrel panels being welded to steel columns. We worked with the design team to simplify design and ease of construction by reducing the multiple spandrel panels into just one spandrel.

What is the potential for this project's impact on the community and/or environment?

The new distribution center created more than 250 jobs within the community and is a new addition to a growing business center in the area.
