Target Hilo

Construction of a tilt-up big box store. Marketing Description: The Target store in Hilo is the fourth store from the big box retailer to open in Hawaii, and the second on the Big Island. Eighty percent of the 160,000-square-foot building is dedicated to the main sales floor and administrative offices. The store is comprised of tilt-up concrete walls, structural steel roof framing, and cast-in-place concrete slabs.Nordic PCL s self-performed slab-on-grade exceeded the specified requirements for flatness and levelness. A stringent quality control plan helped to eliminate defects. In the end, the project team s overall performance rated a perfect 10 out of 10 on the client s turnover evaluation.During contract negotiations, the client requested that Nordic PCL deliver the project two months earlier than planned. The project team committed to the schedule and was successful in delivering the store. Target held its grand opening as planned on July 24, 2011.
