Project summary provided by submitting company.
Although the project had only 22 tilt wall panels, the design and the size of the panels created numerous challenges for the project team. The panels vary in thickness from 14" below FF, to 12" or 16" at Level 1 & 2, 8" at level 3 & 4, and 12" at the roof. The varied thicknesses was an innovative design feature that allowed for the curtainwall to be flush with the exterior finishes. This design called for massive amounts of formwork and "boxes" to be made to accommodate the changing thicknesses. The varied thicknesses also created challenges for the placement of reinforcing steel with varied stirrup sizes and "steps" in the columns.
The project was also constructed adjacent to an existing facility which created challenges as well. The largest challenge was the 4 panels that weighed 289,700; 291,000; 312,400, and 315,100 lbs. Some of the largest panels lifted in the country this year. The use of a 450 ton crane was required and the lifts were performed over the weekend as to not endanger the employees of the existing facility.
