This new office and manufacturing facility contains the relocated headquarters of Gordon Holdings Inc. and expanded manufacturing space for its subsidiary, Polystrand Inc., manufacturer of fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites. The owner desired an energy-efficient, cost-effective building that projected a strong company image recognizable in the community.
Tilt-up provided a high-performance, low-maintenance building shell for the project. A band of 2-foot-tall clerestory windows admits abundant daylight into the manufacturing area, reducing energy costs. Tilt-up reduced construction time, allowing the contractor to erect and enclose the shell in approximately four months before winter weather could delay construction. Finally, tilt-up construction was an affordable method to create variety in the long building facades, helping to break up the large wall surfaces and adding visual interest. Large and varied window sizes were introduced to create an open, welcoming feeling. A multicolored glazed corner tower marks the office area while a 25-foot-long spandrel panel frames a dramatic glazed cantilever at the entry.
