We often refer to the variety of tilt-up when touting the many benefits of the method. I believe it is at the core of the building system's expansion beyond the box; it leads to its vast applicability. It is not just the construction process that allows for this quality, however. I believe the variety in tilt-up is a product of and inherent in the very people engaged in supporting and growing the industry.
As I looked around the room during a recent board of directors meeting, I was reminded of the multifarious collection of professionals participating in our industry. At the table, equally represented, were architects, engineers, suppliers, general contractors and concrete contractors. Such a scene must be the envy of most industry trade associations. Each and every issue discussed had the attention of a well-rounded, well-informed group of subject-matter experts covering every aspect of our industry. And as one of our board members pointed out at a recent meeting, there are some pretty important discussions with broad bearing on our industry happening at these meetings. From positions on Silica regulation and revisions, to bracing guidelines, to critical safety messaging, certification administration, discussion of emerging technologies and studies of market influences, the work of your board is impactful and the value of their intense dedication to the tilt-up industry is immeasurable.
