Tilt-Up and Floors with Extended Joint Spacings

October 8, 2020 from 9:30am to 10:30am Central Standard Time

Courtois Auditorium

Dirk Van Cauteren

When it comes to joint free or limited joint slabs there are multiple approaches available for design and construction teams to consider. Historically, these techniques have required some environmental control during the construction process limiting their use for tilt-up structures. Does the tilt up method have to equal a vanilla slab with saw cut joints every 15 feet (4.5 m)? No. Today, there some really good technologies for owners, contractors and designers to employ. This talk will present a review of several options to achieve extended joint slabs for tilt-up structures.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Explore how floor joints can be extended and understand the varying definitions of expanded.
  • Review the traditional method of casting floor slabs in an external environment.
  • Joints & load transfer capacity at joints – what are the performance demand factors?
  • Explore the current load transfer mechanisms.
