This unique tilt-up construction project created a large entry sign for the Owensboro Convention Center, western Kentucky's newest, premier meeting space. The center is a full-service meeting facility that overlooks the Ohio River in revitalized downtown Owensboro, Kentucky. The multi-purpose center features 92,000 sq. ft. of meeting space including an exhibition hall, as well as additional ballroom and meeting space.
The entry sign creates a focal point at the center's entrance, capitalizing on a striking profile of tilt-up panels and digital graphics to garner attention. The sign consists of three cantilevered tilt-up panels staggered in front of one another. Each panel is a different shape, and the configuration of the panels creates interesting aesthetic appeal. The tilt-up panels are encased in a concrete pedestal foundation. Electrical conduits were embedded in the foundation and center panel to provide up-lighting for the sign.
The sign's center panel features a rectangular recess for a large screen that displays information and announcements related to the convention center. The screen is mounted into a 10-ft.-wide by 6-ft.-high space. For added stability and durability, the screen is recessed 8 in. deep in the 12-in.-thick panel.
