USCIS Miami District Office

The U.S.C.I.S. Miami District Office is one of five field offices in the Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach county areas for the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and will serve as a future model for USCIS operations in the 21st century. This new building represents a full range of modern design concepts in accessibility, security, convenience and architecture, while streamlining the immigration process by eliminating the need for travel to multiple locations during the application process.

The design team, including the architect and engineer-of-record, designers of many public school projects in south Florida, and very familiar with the Tilt Up system, chose Tilt-Up because of the high schedule pressures, the ability to meet LEED Silver Certification, the ability to achieve enhanced architectural applications in the design, as well as the economy and long term durability of the system. The facility also offers convenient, safe, secure and environmentally friendly offices located along major transportation routes accessible by public transit. With the combination of seat wall, concrete planters and other landscape elements, the office provides a secure facility with an open and welcoming environment for the public. Architectural enhancements include curved panels at the front entrance foyer that form the circular clerestory facade, extensive use of perimeter windows with decorative canopies that allow natural light into the building while reducing solar heat through shading, extensive use of decorative reveals cast into the panels that continue around the circular entry area, as well as notched parapets at the top of panels with decorative railings used to create a balcony look at the roof.

The facility features top-of-the-line interior finishes including marble flooring, transparent glass-enclosed office spaces, high-grade modern millwork and tray-type ceilings with upgraded acoustical systems. The design includes all the essentials ensuring that everything from the layout to the location supports USCIS’ mission and goal to provide better service to their customers. The contractor was able to adhere to the architect’s vision for the space and create the inviting atmosphere the USCIS desired, while installing these elements in a cost-effective manner.

Constructed as Silver LEED certified facilities and Energy Star rated, the buildings are highly energy efficient and constructed of green materials and furnishings.
