The WPTV Channel 5 complex, located near downtown West Palm Beach, consists of a two-story television broadcast facility and a two-story parking garage constructed in 365 days. The $10.5 million state-of-the-art 70,131 square foot building is complete with two 5,200 square foot television production studios, which required extremely flat floors. The facility also contains cutting-edge audio and video editing rooms, as well as a high tech broadcasting control center. The second floor of the facility is dedicated to office space.
The clock tower stands at over 110 feet tall and is constructed of triple stacked Tilt-Up panels. The base of the tower serves as the public entrance and lobby to the main building and the tower also contains an equipment room located 44 feet up. The roof dock level, which is 70 feet above the ground floor, boasts a spectacular view and will be used to erect a microwave antenna array.
The reduction of outside sound transmission also was incorporated into the design.
The panels used for the broadcast facility were 7.25 inches and 9.25 inches thick, with the latter being utilized around the exterior of the studios. The heaviest panel is 140,000 lbs.
Dayton-Richmond products and Texcote paint were used.
