Wain Rd

TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Housing Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

The Wain Road residential project features insulated concrete tilt-up panels, which address many challenges in home building such as mold, rot, maintenance, thermal bridging, poor insulation values, indoor air quality and acoustics. Insulated footings and slab were easily achieved. No thermal bridging occurred fiberglass connector pins were used between the exterior and interior layers of concrete. High R-values in the wall assembly were easily achieved. Out board insulation of the building envelope pushes the dew point outside of the building envelope and eliminates rot in the wall assembly. Wain Road's wal panels have low permeable ratings for vapour diffusion and superior air tightness at floors, walls, roof, windows and penetrations. Requiring only three primary materials, the tilt-up method elimated waste and materials used. Thermal mass provides thermal comfort with marginal temperature fluctuations. As such, minimal heating systems were required.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
