Lynn University Snyder Sanctuary

TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Spiritual Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Lynn University's Snyder Sanctuary utilized the tilt-up construction method to a achieve a timely constructed, durable structure for spiritual refuge and interfaith worship. Representing one of the most unique and innovative uses of tilt-up, the wall panels follow a spiral pattern calling to mind a labyrinth design, which is found in numerous spiral forms in nature. The structure's design includes 50-foot-tall tilt-up panels of various thicknesses and angles forming the sanctuary's space. Each wall panel leans considerably into the immediate adjacent panel, connecting to each other, and together forming a strong, stable structure. Architectural appointments include glass openings between the angular panels where light enters the sanctuary space. From an exterior vantage point, the ingenuity of the tilt-up design offers differing angles and thicknesses, flaring to create unusual shadowing of light that also changes with the sun's movement. Snyder Sanctuary is a notable example of a smaller tilt-up structure incorporating large, heavy individual panels weighing up to 240,000 pounds.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
