Town Centre One Theater

TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Civic Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

The Town Centre One Theater project is a multi-generational commitment of The Moody Foundation that started in the 1950's. Dan Moody, wanting to support the community with the arts, donated the land and building to establish a community theater in the early 1950's. The theater group has thrived since then and the commitment to support the theater has lasted to this day with a 3rd generation Moody, Dan Moody III, making the commitment to finance and build a new Theater building.

In the spirit of the arts, the design team and the Moody Foundation wanted to present to the community a structure that complimented the community, tied into the existing commercial development and displayed the creative nature of architectural design and the arts. The vision for the structure turned into a combination of glass and concrete tilt-wall. Concrete tilt-wall construction was a logistic challenge due the height of the panels, varied sub-grade elevations for the theater, shortage of space to cast panels and neighboring buildings. The goal of a distinctive concrete tilt-wall look was achieved using a rustic multi-layered liner panel. The rustic look is exposed to view on exterior and interior walls. Success was achieved in the goal of appeal and functional use of a Theater Arts Building that will serve the community for generations to come.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
