Tilt-up was chosen as the delivery method for its ease of design, speed of construction and ability to fit into the over-all concept of the building design. The facility was laid out in a manner as to allow the user and visitor to enter the facility in a more formally designed public area, then progress to a business level designed office area, and then into the warehouse/shop area at the back of the building. Tilt-wall allowed the entry and formal area the flexibility to incorporate two different glass systems while still giving the elevations a sense of structure and support.

In the office/business area, column spacing was achieved that worked with the owner's proposed arrangement of offices and furniture, taking advantage of a more open feel throughout. The warehouse/shop area tilt-wall allowed for larger volume and less columns. As with the office area, not having columns around the perimeter of the building, gave it a smoother and cleaner appearance. At the same time, it allowed for a reduced amount of steel and therefore a portion of the cost.

Many rain days were encountered during the course of construction. The ease and speed at which a tilt-wall panel system could be poured and then erected, helped reduce the number of days lost.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
