Article tools: Coming soon!

The grand front entrance to the building includes three radius panels that were cast on three convex concrete casting beds. With the drive-through drop-off on the ground level, the interior side of the radius panels included architectural details similar to the exterior. Meanwhile, the back side of the building served as a retaining wall with entrances on the second level. The stone pattern was achieved with special cut reveals providing a historical look to the Class A medical office building, replicating local construction techniques of the past.

This project is unique due to the curved panels, three stories, and retaining wall panels. Project challenges included underground parking, limited space for construction, and an occupied campus. The Parkway Building One is the centerpiece of a Medical Office Park which includes five other tilt-up buildings by Citadel.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
