TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Office Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

The C.E.S. Project consists of tilt-up panels of many shapes and sizes supporting a structural steel/hollowcore plank second floor and a roof constructed of hollowcore planks and double tees. Since the building housed multiple businesses, demising walls were required, which were also of tilt-up construction.

The exterior of the building was accentuated with 10 feature panels of varying sizes. Some of the feature panels were laminated to the building skin, while others were set out from the building with the open end supported by a round cast in place column. The space between the feature panel and the building were spanned with cast-in-place shade structures that were supported by tube steel bracing extending from the building wall. Other concrete shade structures provided an unusual three dimensional effect.

Coming from an older, out-dated commercial type building, this project provided the owner with a highly contemporary, architecturally detailed structure. The building is energy efficient and hurricane resistant, partly due to the use of precast concrete components that make up the floor and roof systems. Furthermore, the project used a significant amount of regional and recycled building materials.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
