Hitachi Expansion

TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Warehouse/Distribution Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

This addition more than doubled the size of this facility. The project utilized 11,700 square feet of Spec Formliner (1306 Modified, 1/3 Bond) with NAWKAW Staining, effectively minimizing the project schedule and construction duration. The expansion will be the first one in the state using the Oklahoma Development Pooled Finance Program, A state incentive program that allows Hitachi to use state tax withholdings from the plant's employees to pay for construction.

The Tilt-Up construction method allowed for a more aggressive construction schedule, while also providing additional stability and safety during construction as well as after the job was completed. In fact, the Hitachi facility survived both an F3 Tornado and a 4.0-4.5 earthquake with no damage. The innovative use of Tilt-Up panels and Nawkaw staining gave this project a unique look. The LEED certified facility includes a racking system, warehouse space, office space and administrative offices as well as 20 dock bays. The eco-friendly facility also has parking for hybrid/electric cars as well as bike racks. The Hitachi Norman plant has added approximately 75 jobs to the area. Previously, the facility employed 300 employees.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
