TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Office Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Quantico Building G is a 141,000-square-foot four-story office building located in Stafford, Virginia. It serves the defense contractors and ancillary activities of the Quantico Marine Base. The original design was based on a just-completed sister building. Tilt-Up construction was chosen for value ($600,000 cost savings), schedule (four-six months savings) and design deliverables.

The heaviest Tilt-Up panel measured 63 feet-9 inches, the widest was 36 feet-7.5 inches, and the heaviest panel weighed 171,450 pounds. The building features large bay spacing, large window openings and minimum columns, all of which provides for easier interior layouts and creates an open, secure office space.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
