North Gate

TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Office Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Northgate building three is a four-story 133,000-square-foot commercial office building located at the north entry to the Aberdeen Proving ground in Maryland. Tilt -Up construction was utilized on this third building in the development as it proved to be substantially less in total cost than the original two buildings constructed conventionally and it offered far more design flexibility. 70 percent of the building's exterior is clad with full-brick veneer, with the painted Tilt-Up wall areas accented as 'precast' elements.

The corners of the building offer column-free glass cantilevers. The building is designed to meet the LEED Silver level of certification and will be a site adapt prototype for the balance of the buildings in the park.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
