TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Manufacturing/Industrial Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Overview

The project was originally put out to bid by the developer. The requirement included the use of exterior concrete walls, but tilt up was no mandatory. We took advantage of the tilt up wall system, to bear not just the roof weight, but the cranes used in the production floor. This design took out a lot of structural steel, which price on those days was rocket high. The result was not only winning the bid, but speeding the project to comply with the Owner's equipment installation dates. A chemical treatment plant is located in the highest part of the plant, which combines a 40' clear height requirement, crane usage, and fire walls, so tilt up was an excellent choice to accomplish all that in a single design. We ended fabricating the heaviest panel in Copachisa history! The project was a complete success.

Features

We used 12" thick walls for the chemical treament area, and to support the cranes, withous using any column, ending in a very economical solution.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
