TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Warehouse/Distribution Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

The Cerartec Project was built in two phases. The first phase was initiated in 2007 as a warehousing and distribution center for ceramic tiles and plumbing fixtures, built using Tilt-Up walls on top of continuous strip foundations. Also, this project has an office area separate from the warehouse area.

The office area was built using spandrel panels bearing on top of round concrete columns, tying the bottom of the walls with a cast-in-place elevated concrete floor and the top with a metal decking and lightweight concrete roofing system. In the loading/unloading area a 64-linear-foot spandrel panel was used for canopying this area with capacity for four containers.

The 85,000-square-foot second phase of the project was developed in 2010. This building was designed as an addition to the existing warehouse and distribution center. The office area was built on a second level using spandrel panels bearing on top of round columns on an open parking area. Use of floating ceramic cladding suspended with aluminum frames and separated 2 inches from the Tilt-Up walls were used on the west.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
