Building with Tilt-Up | Project Profiles

Central Jackson County Fire Protection District

TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Municipal Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

This attractive 18,700-square-foot facility, comprising fire district offices, main board room, living quarters, apparatus room and hose tower, was completed in just seven months by Meyer Brothers Building Company, Blue Springs, a Con/Steel licensee, the general and tilt-up contractor.

White portland cement was used to contrast with the thin red bricks inlaid into the tilt-up panels. Brick SnapTM by The Scott System, Denver, is used to integrally cast the    1/2-inch-thick bricks into the panels. Panel joint widths were reduced to 3/8 inch, instead of the typical 3/4 inch, to resemble brick mortar joints. The hose drying tower adds architectural appeal as well as serving a functional purpose. Gossen/Livingston Architecture, Kansas City, provided the architectural design and LJB Engineers & Architects, Dayton, Ohio performed the engineering.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
