Blackshear Place Baptist Church

TCA Tilt-Up Project Profile - Spiritual Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Blackshear Place Baptist Church, one of the largest worship centers in Northeast Georgia, needed to expand its facilities to include additional gathering and classroom space. This project is an exemplary Tilt-Up facility that incorporates aesthetic appeal, creativity in design and advances the Tilt-Up construction industry.

Aesthetically, the facility is a beautifully designed church that features warm and comforting interiors housing some of the most modern technologies. A traditional feel, however, was maintained with such features as a specially designed 43-foot by 10-foot steeple. The steeple includes a steel frame surrounded by glass to contrast with the design of the building facade. The lower portion is a 16-foot tall by 21-foot square box, with a visually floating cylinder threaded up through the middle of the box jutting 14-feet out of the top. Finally, the structure is crowned with a 14-foot tall aluminum cross. In addition to the steeple, the building features cantilevered beams and curved walls throughout.

Tilt-Up was also used for fire protection as the method provides separate spaces for classrooms, gathering areas and pastoral space.

Using Tilt-Up for the renovations saved the Church more than $550,000.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
