Laguna Springs Corporate Center Phase 3

2013 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award - Office Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Tilt-up concrete was chosen for the Laguna Springs Corporate Center (designed as a build-to-suit campus for a major state agency) because it is advantageous in terms of schedule, cost and aesthetic possibilities.

The campus's three-story buildings are composed of overlapping and interlocking planes which create shadow and relief, making for a better sense of scale and detail. Panels of punched windows contrast with the ends of the buildings, which feature larger areas of glass and create a lighter feel. Entries are highlighted by a layer of metal and glass that appears to fold in and out between the tilt-up panels, creating curb appeal that draws visitors to the building. A wall of simulated wood panels runs through the building from one entry to the other, tying the ground floor together.

The diverse ways in which tilt-up concrete is used and combined with other key materials has created a corporate campus with architectural distinction and identity. This project has become the most significant new development in its community and sets the tone for future development.

The project was awarded LEED Gold Certification.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
