The Keegan Center

2010 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award - Warehouse/Distribution Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

The Keegan Center was built by End Hunger Network and is now part of the Houston Food Bank - the largest source of free and low-cost food for hungry people in 18 southeast Texas counties.

Tilt-Up construction was used for the 15,000-square-foot building built just north of downtown Houston. On the side of the facility fronting Interstate 45, the words ‘End Hunger’ are depicted in red corrugated sheet metal, and the exterior of the building is painted to resemble a folded tablecloth, which creates a unique appearance.

Tilt-Up methods were used because they provide a secure and durable structure, which enables the Houston Food Bank to continue operations in the event of severe weather. The convenient location provides easy highway access for the people in the greater Houston area who donate their time to serve those in need.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
