Highland Pointe Building C

2009 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award - Office Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

When drawing up plans for Building C within the Highland Pointe office park, designers wanted the building to not only match the other three structures in the complex to create a campus-like atmosphere, but also blend in with the hilly terrain. To achieve this vision, earth-toned colors and curved walls were used to mimic the natural topography. The four-story Tilt-Up structure also incorporates precast panels, steel frame construction, and glazed and metal cladding for greater architectural flexibility.

Recessed entries with aluminum-clad vertical columns make a distinctive statement, and voids within the design were used to create pedestrian-friendly landscaping and water features. On the interior, curved walls matching the exterior provide a showcase for a state-of-the-art media wall, while the two-story lobby lets in ample natural light. The juxtaposition of different materials and the use of curved walls gently integrate the building into the office park.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
