BRPH Office Building at Meridian Center

2010 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award - Office Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Designed to make an impact, the BRPH office building helps to modernize an older area that has had little or no other recent development.

The four-story building is fashioned after a traditional European-style open studio model. Individual workspaces receive natural light from oversized perimeter windows, and waist-high partitions between the spaces encourage creative collaboration.

In addition to exterior Tilt-Up walls, Tilt-Up core walls were used in place of CMU on the stairwells and elevator shafts, a design shift that allowed the schedule to be shortened and also prevented the need for scaffolding, ensuring a less congested and safer project.

Large glass facades, as well as curved panel walls and projected panel entryways, provide architectural enhancements to the building. A neutral color scheme and applied raised bands support the building's Class A status, while the addition of applied EIFS bands, medallions and moldings completes the modern look of the project.

To help the building achieve LEED Silver certification, the contractor used recycled material in the concrete and 100-percent melted scrap for the reinforcing steel.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
