2010 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award - Office Division

Article tools: Coming soon!

Currently under construction, this modern three-story office building maximizes views while blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Integrating architecture and structural engineering allowed the architect to minimize concrete walls on the exterior in favor of large expanses of glass, which enhance views and natural light for a better work environment while reducing unwanted seismic mass. Large overhangs, canopies and awnings help cool and protect the building for added energy savings.

An 18-foot by 40-foot central atrium filters light to the interior, while exposed Tilt-Up concrete walls inside the building help to define space and act as shear walls to resist seismic forces. The building's irregular floor plan and varying wall heights create a variety of interesting spaces that showcase the versatility of Tilt-Up construction.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
