The owners chose tilt-up concrete construction for this fast-track two-building facility because of inherent benefits of appearance, thermal quality, durability and speed of construction. The project comprises a 21,000 square-foot two-story office/training center and a 20,000 square-foot warehouse. Insulated concrete sandwich wall panels were used throughout.

The building exterior treatment is natural concrete, with simple rustication bands and exposed aggregate. Warehouse wall panels are designed to be relocated for future building expansion. The general contractor, Kocourek S.A. de Construcciones CIF el, Buenos Aires, a Con/Steel licensee, also performed the tilt-up work, the first in Argentina. Due to a lack of conventional hardware, Kocourek had to design and fabricate their own lifting devices for the 75,000-pound panels. The architect was Aslan Y Ezcurra Y Asociados, Buenos Aires, and the engineer was LJB Engineers & Architects, Dayton, Ohio.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
