Dayton, Ohio (April 22, 2008) -- CON/STEEL Tilt-Up Systems®, which specializes in the structural design of concrete tilt-up buildings, is pleased to announce its first building to receive LEED certification,  Holcim Inc. Genevieve main office building.  The project, in Bloomsdale, Mo., was built by The Korte Company of Highland, Ill.

Since its inception in 1993, the USGBC has promoted the design, construction and operation of buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Today, the concept of “green building” or sustainable design has been established as a fundamental issue in the building community, especially in the governmental and institutional sectors.  The LEED rating system includes different levels of green building certification and focuses on strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

Project Details

This project serves as the main office building for a new cement production plant. In addition to office space, the two-story tilt-up concrete structure also includes a warehouse with a 50-foot span bridge crane for off-loading tractor trailers.  The second story includes a control room that cantilevers 16 feet out from the exterior walls.  The control room is clad in glass curtainwall to allow plant operators to view other operations. Key LEED points were earned by using 100% compliant paving material, achieving greater than 40% water use reduction and employing materials that not only contained recycled content, but also were manufactured and harvested within 500 miles of the jobsite.
