Architects | Dealwie Wilkes Rodrigues Barker Designer Benjamin White Achieves LEED Accreditation
White will work to incorporate sustainable practices into the firm’s work, in addition to his project management and design expansion activities.
San Diego, California (January 23, 2008) -- Benjamin White, a project manager for San Diego-based architectural design firm Architects | Delawie Wilkes Rodrigues Barker, has earned his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation.
Becoming a LEED accredited professional (LEED AP) is now more difficult than ever, involving a rigorous written examination addressing the environmental impacts of buildings, from early design phases to long-term life cycle issues.
With his new accreditation, White will work to incorporate sustainable practices into the firm’s work, in addition to his project management and design expansion activities. Currently, he is working on the design of a 2,000-seat multi-purpose performance venue for the Agua Caliente Indian tribe in Palm Springs, Calif.
“I decided to become a LEED AP because I am passionate about the issues that LEED represents,” said White. “Also, having the credential helps to level the playing field when working with project teams.”
White has 11 years of experience in the architecture industry, working on a variety of projects. Most recently, he was involved in the design of a new headquarters for San Diego-based QUALCOMM Inc., as well as the design of a new Bioscience facility on the University of California, San Diego campus.
Prior to joining Architects | Delawie Wilkes Rodrigues Barker in 2001, White worked at Rob Quigley Architects, Graham Downes Architecture and at Jonathan Segal, F.A.I.A. Before that he was a construction framer for two years and a cabinetmaker for one year.
White is a member of the American Institute of Architects and serves on the San Diego Architectural Foundation Scholarship Committee. During the 2006-2007 academic year, he served as a mentor for the ACE Mentor Program, working with students interested in the fields of architecture, construction and engineering. He also is a founding member of the Newschool of Architecture’s Alumni Association.
Born and raised in Englewood, Colo., White now resides in the Golden Hill area of San Diego, Calif. with his wife Lia. His interests include snowboarding, surfing, traveling, camping, real estate and environmental issues.
