Clayco Provides Turnkey Development for Payless ShoeSource
Largest specialty family footwear retailer in Western Hemisphere announces distribution center in Ohio
St. Louis, Missouri (June 7, 2007) -- Payless ShoeSource Inc. (NYSE: PSS) will break ground June 1 on a 600,000-square-foot distribution facility in Brookville, Ohio, that will have the capacity to handle hundreds of thousands of pairs of shoes per day (See photo).
Clayco is the developer, owner and design-builder for the project, providing a complete spectrum of real estate and construction services to Payless. The project began with a three-state site search last year, resulting in the selection of Northbrook Industrial Park in Brookville, approximately 15 miles west of Dayton.
“Clayco is the developer for the project and will own the site, with Payless holding a 15-year lease with options to extend it,” said Johan Henriksen, development manager for Clayco’s real estate group. “The Payless distribution center will be the first building in Northbrook Industrial Park, and it will bring about 300 new jobs to the community.”
The Brookville distribution center will serve approximately 2,900 stores located east of the Rocky Mountains, primarily in the United States and Canada. “This new facility is a strategic initiative in our business strategy to enhance Payless’ supply chain operation, enabling us to more quickly deliver on-trend, targeted product to our stores and customers,” said Matt Rubel, chief executive officer and president, Payless ShoeSource. “We are pleased to work with the local officials and community, as well as Clayco, on this important project.”
