World Recognition for City Engineering Firm

The company received the 2007 Engineering Achievement Award from the TCA.

Christchurch, New Zealand (February 12, 2007) -- Christchurch-based structural and civil engineers Alan Reay Consultants have received world recognition from an international association.

The company received the 2007 Engineering Achievement Award from the Tilt-up Concrete Association of America (TCA) and is the only engineering business outside North America to have received this award.

The award recognises TCA’s engineering professional members that devote countless hours to educating others about tilt-up and continuously demonstrate their dedication to increasing awareness of the tilt-up method, as well as pursuing new concepts to aid the industry.  It is presented at the World of Concrete Conference in Las Vegas which attracts over 80,000 delegates each year.

“Receiving the sole Engineering Achievement Award was completely unexpected and is a real honour as the TCA chose us from such a large worldwide membership base,” said director Dr Alan Reay.

“They regard us as world leaders in the industry. We are very excited and proud to have achieved this international recognition,” he said.

Alan Reay Consultants’ commitment to advancing the tilt-up industry was one of the reasons that the Christchurch company was chosen for the award.

“The work of Alan Reay Consultants is known worldwide and has been honoured with several of our achievement awards,” said James Baty, TCA’s technical director.

“Whether buttress elements in a church or structural panels supporting a sports arena, the firm’s designs have transformed many traditional steel structures into timeless works of construction and engineering efficiency,” he said.

The tilt-up method of pre-cast concrete means that concrete building elements can be formed on or off-site on the ground and then lifted into place.  Benefits include reductions in construction time and cost and a higher quality building.

Dr Reay is considered to be an expert in the tilt-up method and often provides advice about the structural benefits and use of tilt-up concrete to construction companies, developers and architects.

Over the past two decades Alan Reay Consultants has been recognised by the TCA with six achievement awards for projects including the West Stand at Jade Stadium and the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere City which has been chosen to host the 2007 World Netball Championship.
