The Tilt-Up Process

A comprehensive overview of the Tilt-Up construction process - informative to those new to the concept and a great review for those who have some experience in Tilt-Up.

Mr. Salinas will present an informative and lively seminar on the basic concepts of Tilt-Up construction. This broad presentation will present a comprehensive overview of the Tilt-Up construction process, which will be informative to those who are new to the concept and a great review for those who have some experience in Tilt-Up.

The presentation will cover basic materials; the importance of planning the Tilt-Up project; foundations and footings; floor slabs and alternative casting beds; lay-out of panels; chemicals and bondbreakers; casting; erection; bracing; and basic structural systems. 

The seminar will also serve as a preparatory and review seminar for those who intend to sit for the ACI Tilt-Up Superintendent/Technician exam which will be offered as an extra cost item for those desiring to attain this status.


Mr. Salinas received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico with graduate studies at the Universidad Autonoma de Juarez in Mexico. He is President, Supervision, of Construccion y Consultoria S.A. de C.V. and was a member and Past President of Asociation de Ingenieros y Arquitectos de Cd, Juarez, A.C. in charge of professional development.

Genaro is a member of ACI, serving on numerous committees. He is an ACI Examiner for several ACI technician programs including Concrete Field Testing Technician, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Testing Technician, and the Tilt-Up Supervisor program, among others. Genaro has served as Marketing Director, Owner, and General Manager of several concrete industry businesses.   He was vice-president of the Mexican Construction Industry Chamber and is a professor, ICIC for the Construction Industry Training Institute and Cd. Juarez Engineers and Architects Associations, Building Codes.  He is also a Certified Contractor on Pervious Concrete Pavement by the Texas Aggregates & Concrete Association.

Genaro has presented at the World of Concrete in Las Vegas and the World of Concrete Latin America on flatwork, Tilt-Up and floor slabs.  He has also presented the Tilt-Up Superintendent preparatory seminar for the individual certification program. Additionally, Genaro serves as a concrete construction consultant.

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
