Tilt-Up, It's a System

Session: 1-2

Date/Time: Tuesday, September 29 from 8:30 to 11:30 am

Location: Garden State Ballroom

Speaker: Laurence Smith, P. Eng.

CE: 3.0 LU/PDH

Overview

This seminar will present an overview of Tilt-Up as a system, not just a wall enclosure.  When Tilt-Up is approached as a building system, including footings, structure, roof, construction time and other aspects, many efficiencies can be incorporated to make it an economical choice compared to alternative building systems.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the systems approach to Tilt-Up Construction
  • Identify areas and components which can contribute to Tilt-Up’s advantages
  • Understand how schedule, durability, and other intangibles contribute to the Tilt-Up System
  • Compare Tilt-Up to other building systems.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
