The Reorganized ACI 318-14:
Benefits, Rationale, and Availability

The American Concrete Institute’s “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete” is published by ACI’s Committee 318 and covers the materials, design and construction of structural concrete. ACI 318 is one of the most essential and valuable codes with respect to the use of concrete in modern construction. The code is now being reorganized for greater ease of use and will be published in 2014 as ACI 318-14. This user-based reorganization will benefit the entire design and construction community by improving the logic and flow of material presented, including chapters or sections on specific topics, addressing gaps, reducing redundancies, and creating an improved platform to introduce new topics.

Join us for an hour presentation titled “The Reorganized ACI 318-14: Benefits, Rationale, and Availability,” to better understand how the updated code will benefit you professionally; the rationale behind the improvements; and when it will be available for public comment and purchase.

Following the presentation, the ACI Staff Engineer and a member of ACI Committee 318 will open the floor for a question and answer portion, during which they will elaborate on certain topics as they pertain to the audience.

 

About the Speaker

Mike Tholen is Managing Director, Professional Development, at the American Concrete Institute.

He received his BS in architectural engineering and his MS and PhD in civil engineering from the University of
Kansas.

He previously worked at ACI as the Engineering Editor of Concrete International.
