James M. Williams PE, CE, SE, AIA, LEED AP

Photo of Alan WilsonJames M Williams, president of J.M. Williams and Associates (JMWA) and of AE URBIA has over 25 years of experience.  AE URBIA is a sister company of J.M. WILLIAMS and Associates, Inc. 

Since starting JMWA in 1992 he has successfully completed over 3,400 projects nationally and internationally.  He is a Licensed Architect, Professional Engineer, Civil Engineer, and Structural Engineer and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

James has served as president of the Structural Engineers Association of Utah, has chaired several committees and is a member of several engineering and building associations and construction advisory boards.  He recently completed 8 years serving on the Orem City Board of Building and Fire Code Appeals.  James has authored 17 regional and nationally published articles.  He has also prepared and presented 7 full day state level training seminars for building officials, engineers, architects and contractors.

James is licensed in 18 states and has worked in more than 15 countries.  Notable projects include: the tallest water slide in the world,  the largest manmade waterfall in the western hemisphere, the world’s longest gondola, the steepest funicular, the largest museum of natural history in North America, as well as the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios Orlando, and the Atlantis Resorts in the Bahamas and in Dubai, to mention a few.

He has received numerous awards including Best Engineering Design and the Industry Award for Excellence for his contribution to the built environment.  In 2007 J.M. Williams and Associates also received two national awards from Residential Design & Build magazine for their Leadbetter Farms Project on the Washington Coast and Pirates Cove in Boulder, Nevada (which was also named the best residential project in Nevada for 2008).  JMWA is an NCSEA national finalist for the architectural design and engineering of the Clyde Companies Corporate Office Building and was also awarded the 2007 Building Project of the Year from the Associated General Contractors.  The firm has been awarded over 60 design awards. 

James was the recipient of the 2010 TCA Irving Gills Distinguished Architect Award.

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
