Judged by a five-person industry panel, the projects were evaluated in terms of aesthetic expression, schedule, size, innovation, finishes and special conditions.

According to Ed Sauter, Executive Director of the TCA, the judges expressed amazement with the progress site cast Tilt-Up construction has made in the areas of creativity and aesthetic expression over the past several years.

The 2003 Awards also include the first-ever Architect’s Award, chosen at the TCA’s inaugural Tilt-Up Design Charette held in November. Lucent Technologies, a 308,496-square-foot office building in Miramar, Florida, was selected for this honor. The competition was judged by a panel of five individuals experienced in Tilt-Up construction, representing the spectrum of disciplines required in the Tilt-Up industry.

Twenty-five projects were selected to receive awards this year with eight receiving further distinction for their over-all excellence. These projects received the highest overall scores of all submittals. Seen below, these projects are noted with the symbol of  Excellence Award logo

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
