The winners this year demonstrate the tremendous variety and versatility of Tilt-Up as construction method. One of the winners for 2000 is not even a new building. It was an adaptive reuse of an existing Tilt-Up structure from a warehouse to an office building.

Emphasis is placed on projects that introduce new building types utilizing Tilt-Up concrete methods, advance industry technology, or provide a unique solution to a building problem. The competition is limited to projects completed between October 1, 1998, and October 1, 1999.

Entries are judged by a group of architects, engineers and contractors who are active in the industry. Four criteria are considered: quality of construction, aesthetic appeal, creativity of structural and architectural design, and unique application or end use.

About the TCA

Founded in 1986, the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) strives to improve the quality and acceptance of site-cast Tilt-Up construction, a method in which concrete wall panels are cast on-site and tilted into place. Tilt-Up construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, combining the advantages of reasonable cost with low maintenance, durability, speed of construction and minimal capital investment. At least 10,000 buildings, enclosing more than 650 million square feet, are constructed each year using this construction method.
