The Haskell Company employed Tilt-Up construction to ensure durability for the Seawalk Performance Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach, one of three winners in the Special Projects category. In addition to creating a unique and inviting amphitheater to be enjoyed by the public, requirements for the project included strength against storm winds and wave action, and durability against corrosion.

According to Alan Wilson, Haskell's architect for the project, it was natural to select Tilt-Up construction because load-bearing concrete was the only method capable of providing unique architectural treatment in the form of a durable structure.

The three-dimensional building, boasts a sculptured quality, complete with sweeping curved panels tops, mimicking the form of nearby dunes or ocean waves. The stage roof, which cantilevers 13-feet, reaches out to the audience like a wave preparing to break onto the beach.

Flanking sound wings, where speakers are placed for performances, and rear panels curve outward out-of-plane more than three feet, adding to the structure's sculptural quality.

For more information on this special project, contact Alan Wilson at (904) 791-4500.
