Sleek, clean and contemporary describe the new 61,800 square foot combination retail and warehouse facility built in 1995 for Suburban Contemporary Furnishings of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Suburban wanted to consolidate its operations and convey the contemporary nature of its product lines. Although this was a difficult Tilt-Up project, the finished product stands out from all other buildings in the area. The building contains a showroom and shipping area on the first floor and warehouse space on the second.
E.V. Cox used in-house developed computer software for lifting analysis and insert location. The wall coating used was a flexible system of perlite granules to create texture. Quality controls was crucial to alleviate any defects from the final finish.
A focal point of the building is its entrance, which opens into the main showroom without any visual obstructions from the panel above. To allow this, four of the panels are supported on columns inside the main entry at the first floor. These panels required high strength steel rods to distribute the bearing load imposed by such a small bearing surface. These panels support the second floor and roof loads for the building.
Completed cost was $23.00 per square foot. Architect for the project was Bob Reed, AIA of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
