Patton Apartment Building
1996 Tilt-Up Achievement Award Winner
Owner: Russell Patton
Residential and, in particular, apartment building construction is a growing area for tilt-up. An impressive 40-unit, 5-story apartment building was completed in December, 1994 for Russell Patton of Truro, Nova Scotia.
The 51,000 square foot building had a completed square foot cost of $47.00. Truro is a small community, so both budget and aesthetics had to be taken into account in this project. The client wanted a building with a low capital cost and easy maintenance, but with a distinctive appearance that would attract quality tenants. That challenge was met. The project was started on July 1st and by December 2nd, tenants began to occupy the buildings.
The exterior panels of the apartment building are finished with 2-inch white marble set in a sand bed system blended with architectural patterns of smooth concrete reveals. A glass-covered entrance canopy, together with galvanized steel balconies for each unit, complement the visual appeal of this project. A traditional sloped roof added to the high-class appearance.
